Smyrna’s ministry partner in Turkey faces peril when sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to Muslims; those who receive the Good News are threatened with death.

There is a seeming pattern to the murders of Christians in Turkey today as an authority at Gatestone Institute finds: “Murders of Christians are committed stealthily in Turkey: It is ‘ordinary people’ who murder or attack Christians, then the judiciary or political system somehow finds a way of enabling the murderers or attackers to get away with what they have done.”

Knowing this motivates us to pray all the more earnestly for our ministry partner, “N”, in Turkey as he and his wife minister to the needs of the Church there. In July he shared: “We continue to evangelize to the people here. At times sharing the gospel can result in unforeseen trouble.”

He went on to recite a recent example. A young Kurdish couple began attending our partner’s church after leaving Islam and becoming Christians. One Muslim from the couple’s hometown saw them attending church and reported it to Islamic leaders in the area, hoping to incite violence, even murder, against the Christian couple. “They will be killed for leaving Islam”, Islamic leaders said.

The couple’s family members, not presently Christians, stepped in to protect them and counter threatened the area Muslims. Pray for our partner and all those involved in the high yet dangerous calling of outreach among Muslims and ministry to the needs of the Church in Turkey today.

9/12 — Pray that Turkish Christians will cling to Christ amidst severe testing that their faith may be refined as gold.

9/13 — Pray for Christians in Turkey to take heart that their momentary affliction is preparing for them an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison. (2 Corinthians 4:17)

9/14 — Pray for a filling of the Church in Turkey by the Holy Spirit to prompt believers to offer their lives as living sacrifices, pleasing to our most precious King, Jesus Christ.

9/15 — Pray for the faith of Turkish Christians to mature as they learn what it means to be despised, discriminated against and attacked for the sake of Christ. Pray that they count all things as loss for the sake of knowing Him.
