We praise God that we are able to report that Maryam Naghash Zargaran, an Iranian Christian convert from Islam, was released from Iran’s infamous Evin Prison in Tehran on August 1st.

Maryam was imprisoned for four years for “propagating against the Islamic regime, and colluding to undermine national security.” More accurately, Maryam was first investigated and then arrested by Iranian authorities for her work with “underground” house churches.

This summer saw an upsurge of harsh penalties meted out by Iranian courts against imprisoned Christians.

According to a representative from Middle East Concern (MEC): “Whereas in recent years Christian converts involved in house church activities could expect to receive prison sentences of up to 2 years, sentences of 10 years or more in prison have been handed down in recent cases. There is a lot of pressure on church leaders to leave the country.”

As a result of the atrocious prison conditions in Iran and unduly extended sentences, Christian prisoners have recently gone on hunger strikes in protest.

“Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” — Romans 8:1

9/24 — Pray that Iranian Christians will call upon the Lord as their defense; according to Psalm 55:22 He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.

9/25 — Pray for increased endurance stemming from an anchored hope in God and in His eternal Word for Christians imprisoned in Iran.

9/26 — Pray that imprisoned Iranian Christians will have boldness and reliance on the Holy Spirit’s power to, like Paul, speak boldly as God’s ambassadors in chains.

9/27— Pray for continued courage for the estimated 90 imprisoned house church pastors in Iran and for our partner ministry providing assistance to the families of the imprisoned.

9/28 — Pray that leaders and governments worldwide will speak out against the human rights abuses on behalf of those falsely accused and imprisoned in Iran.

9/29 — Ask God to soften the hearts of Muslim guards and neighbors who witness extreme targeting of Christians in Iran. Ask God to reveal Himself as the loving Father and Jesus as the Son of God and Savior of the world to Iranian Muslims.

9/30 — Pray that Christians persecuted in Iran will remember daily the promise that Jesus Himself IS our peace, Who has broken down the dividing wall of hostility and there is nothing now separating us from His love.
