“This morning as part of the operation we’ve been conducting, we rescued one of the Chibok girls.”

Boko Haram’s reign of terror in Nigeria is momentarily interrupted as one of  the young girls kidnapped in 2014 is restored to freedom.

Maryam Ali Maiyanga was at school preparing to take final exams when Boko Haram jihadists attacked her school in the predominantly Christian village of Chibok. She and 276 of her classmates were kidnapped after dark on April 14, 2014.

A few weeks ago, Major General Lucky Irabor of the Nigerian army reported that soldiers had found Maryam. It appears that she, along with many of the young girls subsequently rescued, was raped by her captors. She was in the forest with her 10-month-old baby.

At least 196 girls are still held captive by Boko Haram, whose stated mission is to establish Allah’s perfect “sharia law” in Nigeria. These jihadists targeted the town of Chibok because of its majority Christian population, and boast that they have forcibly converted the girls to Islam.

The physical and spiritual suffering of these women, many who are our sisters in Christ, is crushing. They desperately need our prayers, as does Maryam, as she seeks to rebuild her life.

Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him.” – James 1:12

Pray–

12/24 – Pray that the endurance of such physical and spiritual trials by the young girls of Chibok will serve to strengthen them in their faith.

12/25 – Pray that the Christian girls still held captive by Boko Haram will meditate day and night on the promises found in God’s Word, and that they will remember especially the promise of Christmas that led to the Cross and their redemption.

12/26 – Pray especially for Maryam to be supported and discipled by true Christians, who will unconditionally love her baby as well as herself. Sadly, some Nigerian Christians view the children of Muslim rape as evil and will not support or help them in any way.

12/27 – Pray that the Christian Chibok captives will be courageous to share their faith with others held by Boko Haram.

12/28 – Pray that the Islamist terrorists of Boko Haram would be disbanded and that every one of their captives would be freed.

12/29 – Ask that the Holy Spirit would enable the captive girls to forgive and extend grace to their enemies and persecutors.

12/30 – Pray that God will remind heartsick parents of the captured girls that their daughters have a firm place as children of God and citizens of His eternal City.

12/31– Ask God to bind the physical, emotional and spiritual wounds of the kidnapped Chibok girls.
