Replacing Despair with Hope
Throughout the Islamic World, Christians experience varying degrees of persecution and suffering -- sometimes including ostracism and marginalization, and at other times terror and torture. Often they suffer serious financial deprivation. Many times just a few dollars can make the difference.
Smyrna's SHARE Fund provides Christians in America the opportunity to fulfill the admonition of Scripture to " . . . do good . . . especially unto them who are of the household of faith." (Gal. 6:10)

Few of us have struggled for basic survival. We may know financial limitations, debt, a tight budget, self-denial. But have we ever questioned whether we could live out the week? Have we ever watched our children die of starvation? Have we ever spent a day under the blazing sun or a night in the harsh winter cold because we had no home to go to, no bed to sleep in?
A Muslim who converts to Christianity may be persecuted by state officials, fired by their employer, disowned by their parents, ostracized by their friends. Infant faith meets hunger, homelessness, emotional trauma, even death threats. This Fund enables local ministries to embrace needy converts: giving food and safe shelter, creating job opportunities, providing Christian instruction and community.
Malnourishment, sexual exploitation, violence, and spiritual darkness threaten children throughout the Islamic World. This Fund (particularly appropriate as a classroom or Sunday school project) demonstrates the love of Jesus to little children. Your gift may rescue a child, provide food and shelter, or send them to a Christian camp.
Around the world there are 1.3 million Muslims and 50 Muslim-dominant countries. Yet amidst these populations locked in darkness, God has raised up for Himself a witness. The oppressed Christian minority of the Islamic World proclaims the Gospel to those who have never heard, and plants churches in villages and cities where now stand only mosques.
A contribution to the General Fund gives us the flexibility to channel your donation to the area of greatest need. The General Fund responds to immediate crises, and funds ministries in areas so dangerous that all information is confidential.

Throughout the Islamic World, local congregations need faithful pastors. Unreached regions need evangelists. Fledgling ministries need committed directors. And these new leaders need training and encouragement, partnership and support. This Fund facilitates Christian seminars in impoverished regions, supports village pastors, provides theological education and practical training, and replaces empty shelves with full libraries.
Ministry in the Muslim context is dangerous work. As the days pass we learn of fresh atrocities from Gaza, Ethiopia, Kashmir, Turkey—more additions to the hall of martyrs.
In impoverished regions, a new believer (or a Muslim attracted to the Church) faces immediate physical needs. Women and children without means of support are especially vulnerable. Rather than providing continual handouts, this Fund enables the needy to become self-supporting by beginning a small business. The smallest gift -- to purchase a sewing machine, a goat, a set of carpentry tools, or a bag of seeds -- makes a lasting impact.
The Ministry Support Fund is dedicated to sustaining National Christian workers across the Islamic World, who for the sake of Jesus have become poor. They are highly skilled, driven individuals, yet they do not pursue ambitious careers or personal wealth. They know a single passion -- to shine the Light of the World in the darkest communities, to place a Bible in the hands of a Muslim at a secret meeting place, to plant a church in a city of mosques.
When a natural disaster hits an Islamic region, the Christian minority often suffers most. Already subject to discrimination and poverty, the Church amidst a natural disaster may lose everything. This Fund provides for Christians in distress.
In the developing world, six out of every ten people are malnourished (World Vision). And in 1987 the United Nations estimated that 15 million people were refugees in camps worldwide. Multitudes struggle for basic survival amidst warfare, famine, sickness, and widespread catastrophe.
In memory of a woman known for her fervent prayer, prayer huts now stand outside a training center in West Africa. In memory of parents known for sacrificial generosity, children are rescued from genocide in Sudan. Would you like to continue the legacy of a loved one by giving to a project that would have been close to their heart?
Throughout the Islamic World, women are denigrated by polygamy, easy divorce, discrimination, and abuse. When a fourth wife is abandoned so that the husband may take another (Islamic Law allows only four wives), she may find herself without food and shelter, without education and friends. Every door may close to her -- except the door of the Church. This Fund enables indigenous ministries to open a door of protection, education, and evangelism to women when they are most vulnerable.
The Smyrna SHARE Fund is an intrinsic part of Smyrna Ministries International, serving the Persecuted Church in the Islamic World. The SHARE Fund is audited annually and is fully committed to ensuring the integrity of all funds entrusted to it. We take this as a serious custodial responsibility. All funds are administered according to accepted financial practice, and meet standards and requirements established by the Internal Revenue Service and the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability.
Requests for funds from the Oppressed Church are prayerfully evaluated. Usually, the SHARE Fund leadership is already aware of the need and has previously been in contact with the National Ministry involved. Approval is determined in accordance with the following guidelines:
The "Church" as used here could mean a Christian community, an individual Christian or Christian family, or the mission of the Church in making known the Gospel. The context could be a country with a Muslim majority or where Islam is making significant inroads, or a Muslim family/community (e.g. a convert from Islam in a Western country).
Preference will always be given to Projects that emphasize front-line evangelism, discipling converts, and leadership development.
In conformity with Internal Revenue Service requirements, the Board of Directors maintain complete control over SHARE Fund moneys and determines their ultimate distribution. However, we make every effort to distribute funds in accordance with the donor's designation. If for any reason this is not possible, the donor is notified and given the option of having their gift returned or redirected to another Project; or when designated Projects are fully funded, extra moneys will be channeled to similar Projects.
