Praise God that nearly half of the Nigerian girls kidnapped, terrorized, abused, and raped by the Islamic terrorists of Boko Haram in a 2014 attack are now freed and reunited with their families
On May 6, the Nigerian government announced that it had negotiated the release of 82 schoolgirls who had been kidnapped from a majority-Christian high-school in April 2014 and held hostage by Boko Haram jihadists.
While the families were initially overjoyed at their secured release, they then had to wait fourteen days to be reunited with the girls as the Nigerian government “rehabilitated” them. With their families anxiously awaiting their return, the girls were kept in the capital city of Abuja in secure government facilities. The government claimed they were preparing the girls for “reintegration” by providing them with vocational training classes.
Finally, on May 20th, after over a 3-year-long captivity, 82 of the girls were rejoined to their families. Overcome with relief and joy, some groups sang, danced, jumped and “sank to their knees, giving praise and praying,” reports NPR.
Despite these families’ good news, there are still at least 113 abducted girls who need to be set free. “Our joy is never complete until we see the complete 113, because one Chibok girl matters to all Chibok people,” said Yahi Bwata, a parent of one of the freed girls.
“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so
that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.” — Romans 15:4
6/23 — Pray for wisdom and compassion for those working with the released girls. Pray for the girls who converted to Islam during captivity to realize that the arms of Jesus are always open, no matter what.
6/24 — Pray for the newly freed Chibok schoolgirls, who were sexually enslaved by Boko Haram jihadists in captivity, to find restored purpose, hope and healing in Christ.
6/25 — Pray that God will continue to use the horrifying ordeal the Chibok schoolgirls endured to draw each of them into an abiding, intimate and saving relationship with Jesus Christ.
6/26 — Pray for any children born to these girls during their captivity to be dearly loved and warmly accepted by the Christian communities in Nigeria.
6/27 — Sadly, at least 113 Chibok girls remain missing as of May 6. Ask God to comfort the grieving families of the still missing girls and deliver them from captivity.
6/28 — Pray for God to be glorified and His name lifted high through the demonstration of Christian love and forgiveness by His Church Body in Nigeria.
6/29 — Ask God to enable our partner’s churches in Nigeria to flourish in equipping and training Christian pastors to boldly preach the Gospel of Jesus to the lost.
6/30 — Ask God to dismantle the plans of Boko Haram and bring each member to repentance and a saving knowledge of Christ.
