Brutally stolen by a Muslim attacker several years ago, this now 6-year-old girl has been reunited with her Christian family as Assyrian cities are liberated from ISIS.
You may recall the story and photograph of a precious young 3-year-old girl named Christina who was literally ripped from her mother’s arms in August of 2014 during the ethnic cleansing of Qaraqosh by ISIS. After nearly three years of captivity, Christina Ebada has been restored to her Assyrian family in northern Iraq.
She appears to be in good health, according to Assyrian International News Agency, though she speaks very little and has forgotten her native language of Assyrian. After being taken by a bearded militant, she apparently ended up with a family who took care of her. God’s providence apparently spared her much of the trauma experienced by many other children brutalized by the Islamic State.
Christina’s mother, Ayda, expressed her thanks to Christ and to all believers who prayed for her daughter’s safe return. Christina’s brother shared in a statement to Fox News: “With all that we have been through, we are overjoyed that our Christina has been returned to us safely. I thank all those who have prayed for her safe return.”
Many Christians from Iraq, and especially Syria, are returning to their homes now after successful military advances to regain ISIS-controlled cities. Christina and her family were reunited in newly-liberated Mosul. The homes, neighborhoods and families they return to, however, will never again be the same.
“For I will not trust in and lean on my bow, neither shall my sword save me. But You have saved us from our foes and have put them to shame who hate us.” — Psalm 44:6-7

8/6 — Ask God to minister through His Word and speak to every believer in Iraq that their roots of faith in Him might grow deep through these times of testing.
8/7 — Ask God to preserve His remnant in Iraq today.
8/8 — Pray for the work of restoring war-devastated communities in Iraq and ask God to use the Iraqi church to be the hands and feet of Christ to lost Iraqi Muslims.
