The Muslim Boko Haram employs murderous tactics in Nigeria to demolish civil society. Its goal is an authoritarian Islamic state. In pursuing this goal it abuses women in horrific and shameful ways.

She was taught about Allah and his prophet at gunpoint; when she told her kidnappers she couldn’t read the Qu’ran because she didn’t know how to read . . .she was beaten. Tani Bitrus was a captive of Boko Haram jihadists for a month after they first executed her husband.

Boko Haram is proud of its tactics of forced conversions, execution, and mass rape, claiming to be building an Islamic state in northern Nigeria in the manner prescribed by Muhammad.

With the help of Muslim women at market, she was able to escape. Now Tani has found safe haven at a refugee camp in Yola, Nigeria.

Mary John Ibrahim, a hospital worker, was abducted after Boko Haram fighters attacked and burned down the hospital in Gwoza. When she refused to deny Christ and convert to Islam, she was beaten and starved.

After two weeks, she managed to escape and hide in the mountains. Today, she also lives at the refugee camp in Yola.

Their ruthless violence has disrupted and terrorized the lives of thousands of Nigerians, both Muslim and Christian.

Pray —

5/1 — We know that this is a spiritual war. Pray for women like Tani and Mary to know the spiritual as well as physical protection of Christ and His finished work as they heal.

5/2 — Pray that our Almighty God will strengthen the hearts of His people in Nigeria and work out even these heartbreaking circumstances for their everlasting good.

5/3 — Pray for resources for Nigerian refugees-especially Bibles and theologically sound materials as well as their physical needs.

5/4 — Pray for Nigerian pastors to proclaim the Word faithfully, despite threats, kidnappings, and intimidation.

5/5 — Praise God for the actions of the Muslim women who showed compassion on Tani and Mary and helped in their escape. Pray also for those women who are still held captive.

5/6 — Ask God to equip each captive with His mighty armor as described in Ephesians chapter 6.

5/7 — Pray for many Nigerian Muslims to see the brutality of Boko Haram, to question Islam, and to recognize their need for Jesus Christ and repent.
